Presentation:  Shotcrete Today – State of the Art

Presenter: Charles Hanskat, Executive Director and Technical Director | American Shotcrete Association
Charles will be joined by Justin Shook, President of Baystate Shotcrete. Justin brings many years of shotcrete experience as a certified nozzleman and business owner.

Abstract: A brief introduction to shotcrete history, processes, materials, equipment, placement and testing. Also cover the new ACI 318-19 Code provisions that address shotcrete placement for structural concrete and ACI 506 Shotcrete references. Address the benefits of certification of shotcreters (formerly nozzlemen) and shotcrete inspectors, and the need for qualified shotcrete contractors.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn the aspects of both wet and dry-mix shotcrete processes
2. Recognize ACI shotcrete reference materials and other Industry standards pertaining to acceptable shotcrete placement
3. Understand the ACI 318-19 Code provisions for shotcrete placement in structural concrete
4. Appreciate the need for certified shotcrete nozzlemen and inspectors, as well as qualified shotcrete contractors

Charles HanskatExecutive Director and Technical Director - American Shotcrete AssociationCharles Hanskat, PE, is a Fellow member of the American Concrete Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Florida Engineering Society. He is Executive Director and Technical Director for the American Shotcrete Association. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida and has been a licensed professional engineer for over 40 years. Hanskat has been involved in the design, construction, evaluation, and repair of environmental concrete, marine, building, and shotcrete structures throughout his career. Hanskat is active in developing codes and standards from many professional and technical engineering societies, including ACI, ASTM, AREMA, and ICRI.
Justin ShookPresident - Bay State ShotcreteJustin Shook is the Owner of Baystate Shotcrete. He has worked in the shotcrete industry since 2003, and has been an ACI Certified Nozzleman for 15 years. Baystate Shotcrete is a full scope shotcrete subcontractor that provides services for rehab, seismic upgrades, and new concrete construction. Justin's experience includes multiple repair projects across New England ranging from stadiums, dams, buildings, bridges, tunnels, and retaining walls. He is a current member of ICRI, ACI and the American Shotcrete Association.
