ABSTRACT
The repair of concrete structures in aggressive environments can become a recurring cycle because existing or new steel reinforcement used in conventional repairs remains susceptible to corrosion. This presentation explores the use of non-corrosive glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars as an alternative internal reinforcement for concrete repair applications, especially in structures exposed to chlorides, moisture, and other corrosive conditions.
The presentation highlights the potential of GFRP bars to improve durability and extend service life while also providing construction advantages such as low weight and easier handling. It also addresses key design and construction considerations, including serviceability, detailing requirements, the applicability of ACI CODE-440.11-22 to GFRP-reinforced concrete, and the limitations associated with GFRP bars use in repair applications.
