SUMMARY:ICRI-NE September Chapter Dinner Meeting & Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Register now for the September 22\, 2026 ICRI-NE Chapter Dinner Meeting and Presentation! \nTHEME: GFRP Bars for Concrete Repairs: Durability\, Design\, and Construction\nPRESENTERS:\nGustavo Tumialan\, Ph.D\, PE | Associate Principal | Simpson Gumpertz & Heger\, Inc.\nKevin Misaro | Project Consultant | Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. \nSCHEDULE:  5:30 p.m. Networking & Cocktails  |  6:00 p.m. Buffet Dinner  |  6:30 p.m. Presentation (60 minutes)\nLOCATION:  Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Office\, 480 Totten Pond Road\, Waltham MA \nABSTRACT\nThe repair of concrete structures in aggressive environments can become a recurring cycle because existing or new steel reinforcement used in conventional repairs remains susceptible to corrosion. This presentation explores the use of non-corrosive glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars as an alternative internal reinforcement for concrete repair applications\, especially in structures exposed to chlorides\, moisture\, and other corrosive conditions. \nThe presentation highlights the potential of GFRP bars to improve durability and extend service life while also providing construction advantages such as low weight and easier handling. It also addresses key design and construction considerations\, including serviceability\, detailing requirements\, the applicability of ACI CODE-440.11-22 to GFRP-reinforced concrete\, and the limitations associated with GFRP bars use in repair applications. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\n> Describe the need for durable concrete repairs in aggressive environments\n> Explain the properties and benefits of GFRP bars for concrete repair applications\n> Identify key design\, detailing\, serviceability\, and construction considerations when using GFRP bars in concrete repairs\n> Discuss the limitations of GFRP bars and how they influence their suitability for repair and rehabilitation projects\n> Review case studies that illustrate the practical use of GFRP bars in concrete repair applications
