Message from Dan Clark, ICRI-NE President
Your ICRI-NE Board of Directors have been hard at work planning exciting new events and programs for your professional development! Our 2025 calendar for the year is almost complete. If you haven’t yet reserved your team’s seats for our March and April events, you’ll be glad to learn that it’s now easier and more convenient than ever to register, pay, and add events to your calendar, directly from our new website.
Speaking of our new website, I’m grateful to our communications team for their work in coordinating its development. Many thanks to Catherine Maloney Bugazia, Peder Hals, Steve Lockwood and Matt Mead for their efforts, as well as Marketing Coordinator Kristie Janes in helping us pull this all together. We are confident you will be pleased with the upgrades.
I extend my sincere gratitude to our annual sponsors. Your commitment to this industry through generous support of our mission and local initiatives is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed. Our chapter thrives with the support of member dues, annual sponsors, and event participation. Thank you!
If you’re not yet a member, please join us and invite your industry peers to join as well. Increased and active membership cultivates growth and enhances our chapter – for everyone’s benefit. If you’re not yet a sponsor, or need to renew, please review our Sponsor Opportunities, and contact any Board member with questions. All Sponsors are promoted on our Home page with links to their websites and at all chapter events. We will also be incorporating a Sponsor Highlight section on our website, providing sponsors an opportunity to tell their story.
On behalf of our Directors, thank you all for your continued participation and support of ICRI-NE. Stay warm and be safe.
Sincerely,
Dan Clark | ICRI-NE President 2025
EVENT RECAP: Precast Double-Tee Flange Connection Failures – JAN 2025 Professional Development Seminar
More than 60 industry professionals gathered on January 22, 2025 for a presentation by Lawrence E. Keenan, AIA PE of Northford Structural Connections on the subject of Precast Double-Tee Flange Connection Failures.
Mr. Keenan shared that while commonly considered a maintenance item or nuisance, precast double-tee connections are an essential part of the lateral load resisting system, and the loss of these connections along a joint severs the deck diaphragm and threatens the general stability of the structure. He explained that recent testing and analysis performed by the precast industry purports to allay concerns regarding these connections; however, careful review of these studies reveals the common, modern connection exacerbates the fatigue failure mechanism by concentrating stress at the ends of the welded connection.
His presentation explored the fatigue failure mechanism as it applies to double-tee connections; explained how fatigue failures are easily identified in the field; discussed code requirements for high-cycle fatigue performance; and examined recent studies to provide an alternate interpretation to that established by the precast industry.
ICRI-NE thanks Northford Structural Connections for also sponsoring this event.
